Would you believe that there’s an entire village in India where the residents eat dhokla, speak fluent Gujarati… but look like they’re straight out of Africa?!?
Then I discovered this almost ‘fantasy scenario’, is absolutely true— while directing Season 2 of “OMG! Yeh Mera India” for @historytv18. For this story, our research led us to coastal Gujarat, where descendants of East-African immigrants have lived for over 200 years.
They have vegetarian Gujarati menus, swap jokes in flawless Gujarati and then slip into their traditional tribal dress that could fool you into thinking you’re in the middle of the Serengeti. Filming their story was pure “content-gold”!!
Last week, the latest season of OMG! swept the Indian Telly Awards, and @Krushna30 took home Best Anchor.
Of course, my season wasn’t up for trophies this year, but seeing the show win big feels like watching your kid graduate college. And hence this slightly nostalgic post!:)
Suddenly I remembered all the late-night location hunts, the improvised shoots, and those “only-in-India” hunches that paid off on camera! So much fun!
So… A massive congratukarions to Krushna and the entire HistoryTV18 crew for keeping the bar sky-high. Your wins prove that authentic, people-driven storytelling still rules prime time.
Tell me now! It might just feature in the next season!😇 And know more about these marvels that India 🇮🇳 is so utterly replete with— By just watching some of the previous seasons!
